The Latin Rita
Dear Latin Rita,
I missed you, didn't realize it but... It was good to run into you again. I'd forgotten your sinfully delicate flavor, what is it that you posess? is it something ingrained in your very nature? how is it that in one meeting, before i'm one third of the way done getting pleasure from your taste, i forget everything around me and it's just us. Just me and you, Latin 'Rita. And what a tease you are, mimicking other margs in your dapper looks but really - the truth is - there isn't anything quite like you. I'm glad we could connect again. I know you have many lovers. So I'll remain content as one of your passing admirers - as long as you'll have me when i come for you. Thanks for being you. Just one of you is enough for me. While i dabble with alluring pinot grapes, I will not forget the joy you bring me on those spontaneous nights when i soak you up. And i want to thank you.
thank you for your potency - so i can have just one drink on the nights when i am most broke but still want to hang with the boys. You have a way of erasing my day, my memory, my inhibition, when i've had just 50% of you - and yet i always accidentally want more. You fool me - most can't fool me - so thank you for playing me the fool. Thank you for always maintaining the status quo in the mission by drawing artists in thankless businesses to your home. Thanks for leading the way to La Altena. There are no others in our neighborhood who can keep up with you. You are our one and only, Latin 'Rita. just be you. i'll come back to consume all that you are yet again, we will share time in the future. of that I am most sure. So until then...be well.

Shattner explores the Commodore Vic 20
my first computer. I think i was about 8 years old. I recently talked about it on a Podcast411 Interview, and a friend sent me this charming old ad for the vic20 back in the day.

bumberniuk
so I'm in seattle, all hepped up on bumbershoot and carrying my favorite hard cover copy of Palahniuk's Choke (which i plan to get signed at bumbershoot during his panel session) - when it dawned on me that i might be embarking upon a very palahniuk weekend overall. The great irony, of course, is the opportunity to hang with chuck on "labor day weekend" - a sanctioned "holiday" for the worker bees of america. And, on this labor free palahniukian weekend, I'm staying with my friend Marla, who bears the same name as tyler durden's anchor in Palahniuk's more famed novel, Fight Club. It's good to see Marla, her apartment is almost as beautiful as she is - cozy, overlooks the water with an amazing skyline view, nestled on a street full of trees in Seattle's Capitol Hill. Marla is a bit shorter and smaller than me (her showerhead comes to my neck) and runs an amazing legal file sharing site - I'm serious - called Weedshare. Marla is always on the prowl for sites that are Weed friendly. My kind of woman. She may be the only woman other than Mary Hodder who will beat me to the pie-in-the-sky goal of making the cover of Wired. but most importantly, Marla loves to dance. And since it's a very palahniuk weekend, perhaps you will enjoy watching her dip the palm tree while passers by go about their day.
This gem of a video, of Weedshare's Marla is the perfect kick off to bumbering... Tonight it's out to dinner with some folks from Sarathan Records & Marla & John from Weedshare. Perhaps there's some cuisine in this city which can satisfy a girl from San Francisco. Keep emailing me about the bands you think i should see, i've been getting your notes (you know who are). on the list for the morrow: Blondie, Halou, Chuck Palahniuk, lady sovereign, deerhoof, alejandro escovedo, badly drawn boy, rogue wave, JFJO and. . . .?
Tomorrow, bumberday1, also marks the arrival of CathyCracks, who unknowingly (or perhaps knowingly) represents all my friends in vancouver who wish they were here. See you tomorrow Cathy. Get ready to represent the Van and ROCK the bumber_photos tomorrow.
